This GOES-16 geocolor image, taken in the afternoon of September 25, 2017, shows Hurricane Lee in the open Atlantic Ocean to the east, and Hurricane Maria off the eastern coast of the United States. The latest information from the NOAA National Hurricane Center states that Lee is now moving again, south-southwest at 2 knots. The moderate vertical shear affecting Lee and some upwelled cool water under the hurricane may cause slight weakening shortly. Hurricane Maria continues to move northward at 6 knots. The hurricane's forward motion should remain quite slow as it is currently being impeded by a mid-level ridge over the northeastern United States.
