Michael Scott is the NEON QuickSounder Project Manager within the Office of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Observations. In this role, he leads the QuickSounder pathfinder mission for NOAA’s Near Earth Orbit Network (NEON) program to demonstrate how commercial approaches can accelerate the development and launch of small satellites for operational weather observations. The QuickSounder pathfinder mission will demonstrate NOAA's ability to launch a small satellite with a single instrument within three years, in comparison to multi-instrument environmental satellites that take 10 years or longer to develop and launch.
Michael has extensive experience supporting a broad range of satellite and aerospace programs. Over the course of his career, he has contributed to the development of the International Space Station, Block IIR GPS satellites, Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) Atlas Centaur upper stage, Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES)-N/O/P, Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi-NPP), Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS), and QuickSounder.
Prior to joining government service, Michael was Program Manager at Dell Federal Services, where he oversaw the Electrical Systems Engineering Services (ESES) contract.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Master of Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University.
