The initial tank on fire had approximately 3 million gallons of naphtha. There were several nearby tanks also containing other hazardous highly flammable chemicals. Because of the expanding toxic fire, ominous black smoke plume and proximity to the Houston metropolitan area, this event quickly became a national news story. This presentation will discuss many of the lessons learned during a major hazardous material incident in a large metropolitan area.1:30- 2:30 pm EST Breakout SessionNWS Double Session: WildfiresAlex Tardy,WCM, NOAA National Weather Service, San Diego CALarry Van Bussum, NOAA NWS National FWX Operations Coordinator, Boise IDOverview:In this special National Weather Service double session, you will hear from speakers on wildfire support.
