DMSP Space Weather products

Type of change:

Suspension of new DMSP space weather data to users

Description of change:

NOAA-hosted Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) data and products are being suspended no later than June 30, 2025. The Space Weather products include data from the following sensors:

SSJ: Auroral plasma electron and ion fluxes

SSM: 3D geomagnetic field vector

SSIES: Ionospheric electron and ion density, temperature and ion drift speed

OLS (VNIR/TIR): Visible near-infrared and longwave thermal imagery, including images of auroras near the poles 

Data access to previously collected DMSP space weather data will continue to be available via: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/products/satellite/defense-meteorological-satellite-program

NOAA will stop distributing new DMSP data on or before 30 June 2025. Previously gathered data will continue to be available.
