Dr. Jordan Gerth is the chief of the Architecture Planning and System Innovation branch at the NESDIS Office of Systems Architecture and Engineering (SAE), with responsibility for flight and ground architectures and joint venture projects that support environmental satellites. He is an expert in weather forecasting and nowcasting applications and requirements, particularly those involving satellite sensors. Before SAE, he was a satellite focal point and team lead at the National Weather Service Office of Observations.
He is the chair of the American Meteorological Society Board on Enterprise Communication and Committee on Radio Frequency Allocations, and a recurring program co-chair for the AMS Satellite Meteorology, Oceanography, and Climatology conference.
Jordan earned a Ph.D. in atmospheric and oceanic sciences from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he also worked as a scientist, software developer, and trainer at the Space Science and Engineering Center prior to joining NOAA.
