James Morrissey

SWFO-L1 Project Manager, NASA

Jim Morrissey is the SWFO-L1 Flight Project Manager. In this role, he manages the day to day operations of the SWFO-L1 project, including the development of the spacecraft bus at Ball Aerospace and the SWFO-L1 instruments. Since SWFO-L1 is a secondary payload, sharing a launch vehicle with the IMAP spacecraft, Jim is ultimately responsible for delivering the SWFO-L1 Observatory on time to meet the IMAP launch date and successfully perform its mission at the Earth-Sun L1 point.

Prior to assuming the role of SWFO-L1 PM, Jim was the Instrument Systems Manager and Launch System Manager for the MAVEN mission and took over management of the mission during operations at Mars as the Mission Manager in the GSFC Space Science Mission Operations (SSMO) Division. Jim started at GSFC in 1994 as Attitude Control Systems engineer on the Spartan and ST-5 missions and later moved into Systems Engineering prior to graduating from the GSFC Project Management Development Emprise (PMDE) program and moving to GSFC Flight Project Directorate in 2010.

Jim holds a B.S. in Chemistry from McGill University and a Masters in Aerospace Engineering from The George Washington University.
