Daniel DeVito

Deputy Director for Formulation
Office of Low Earth Orbit Observations

Mr. Daniel DeVito is the Deputy Director for Formulation within the Low Earth Orbit Programs Division at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC).  In his role, Mr. DeVito leads all pre-formulation and formulation activities within the Division, and assists the Director in negotiations with inter-agency, international and commercial partners.  Prior to his current assignment, he served as the Associate Director for Strategic Integration within the Flight Projects Directorate focused on interagency and international collaboration.  

Mr. DeVito has worked at GSFC since 1983 in a wide variety of technical and management positions.  He started his NASA career as a systems engineering, integration and test contractor supporting the Space Shuttle based Spacelab missions.  Upon joining the Civil Service in 1990, he became the Central Data Handling Facility Manager for the Upper Atmospheric Research Satellite.

Mr. DeVito also served as the Ground Systems Chief Engineer and Manager for Landsat 7, and lead System Engineer for the Earth Observing System Data Information System.  He became the Mission System Engineer for the Suomi – National Polar-orbiting Pathfinder Project in 1998 and was subsequently promoted to Deputy Project Manager in 2006.  In February 2010, Mr. DeVito became the Project Manager for the Joint Polar Satellite System Ground System and was a member of the Senior Executive Service between January 2014 and January 2019.
