Volcanic Sulfur Dioxide Column from the Kilauea Volcano Eruption
The Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS) instrument onboard Suomi-NPP observed a large extent of the volcanic sulphur dioxide (SO2) clouds emitted from Kilauea volcano eruptions on May 2018 in Hawaii. Satellite sulfur dioxide maps show the full geographical extent of airborne volcanic clouds, which is needed to confirm ash plume dispersion forecasts for aviation avoidance and volcanic fog forecasts.
