On November 3, 2017, the JMA Himawari-8 satellite provided this true color image of Typhoon Damrey just before hitting Vietnam with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph. As reported by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, Damrey formed as a depression on November 1 around 5 p.m. EDT (2100 UTC). It was designated Tropical Depression 28W. Early on November 2 the depression strengthened into a tropical storm and was renamed Damrey.
