President’s FY 2014 Budget Supports Key NOAA NESDIS Satellite Programs and Functions

April 11, 2013

President Obama’s FY 2014 Budget request seeks to provide NESDIS with the necessary resources to continue its mission supporting and managing key environmental monitoring and satellite programs. Details of the NOAA request are available at http://www.noaa.gov.

In calendar year 2012 and 2013, NESDIS, with the support of its partners, worked with its partners to meet the challenges of a year of record-setting weather and climate extremes. NESDIS provided crucial, timely satellite observations and environmental data to forecasters and decision makers. Despite fiscal challenges, NESDIS continues to make significant progress in its goal to acquire the next generation of satellite systems. The organization remain focused on maintaining the customary high levels of science, service, and stewardship now and into the future, while becoming more flexible and making NESDIS activities more cost-effective.

NESDIS products and services are foundational to all of NOAA’s mission areas; many Federal agencies along with State and local governments continue to require NOAA data. NESDIS’ dedicated and professional workforce continues to work tirelessly to ensure that NOAA satellites are functioning properly and providing data. We strive to ensure that the data and information services are available 24 x 7, 365 days per year to support NOAA’s mission, customers, partners, and the Nation.
