For the tenth year, NOAA employees, contractors,
friends, and family will be walking and running to win the fight
against breast cancer during the 25th anniversary of the Komen Race for
the Cure®. Mrs. Lautenbacher and I have been part of the NOAA team
(“Running with the Currents”, team code *RWC*)
for the past 6 years and this will mark our last opportunity to lead
the team in this important event. The Komen National Race for the Cure
is on Saturday June 7, 2008 and is the world's largest series of
5-kilometer (3.2 mile) run/walks. Proceeds from the Race support breast
cancer research, education, screening, outreach, and treatment
programs. I encourage you to come join the NOAA team!
You can join NOAA’s team by registering online: http://2008nrftc.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=263218
then click on “Register Now ” on the left hand side of the web page.
Accept the waiver and click the radio button for “Join a Team” and then
scroll down the list of team names to find “RWC Running with the
Currents” and proceed to enter your personal information. If you use
this option, you may want to ship your T-shirt and bib to your home for
the additional $5 fee. Adult T-shirts, ranging in size Small to 3X,
will be available, but only to people who register online and choose
the shipping option. For all other registration options (except Kids
for the Cure®), only adult size XL T-shirts are available.
Other registration options are described on the “Running
with the Currents” web page (below). Please note we will not hold an
on-campus registration this year.
If you can’t join us on Race Day, please consider
supporting the team by making a pledge through a colleague who is
participating or registering to participate in the Sleep In for the
Cure®.
For more information about NOAA's Team and the National
Race for the Cure®, check the “Running with the Currents” web site at: http://www.nesdis.noaa.gov/RaceCure/2008/
or check with your building focal point shown below (and available on
the “Running with the Currents” web page).
Remember you don't need to be a NOAA employee to join
the NOAA team. NOAA employees, contractors, friends, and family members
are welcome to join. Both runners and walkers are encouraged to
participate.
